Every day in the UK, bodies such as local councils, government departments and housing associations procure goods and services through the competitive tender process. This process requires organisations to create written bids (proposals), responding to various questions about their proposed approaches, in order to be awarded a contract.
Executive Compass is an independent bid writing company which exists to support these organisations to write high-quality, detailed and persuasive proposals and maximise their likelihood of success. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne but supporting organisations across the whole of the UK, we now have a vacancy for one or more bid writers to join our team.
While this is not a graduate/trainee role and prior knowledge and experience of the tender process is desirable, we would also be happy to consider applications from candidates with notable experience in their respective sectors and industries and who have demonstrable transferrable skills that can be brought to bid writing.
As a bid writer, your primary role will be to write persuasive, compelling and detailed responses to tender questions on behalf of our clients, all of whom are organisations submitting bids to various buyers.
You will be responsible for end-to-end bid management and support, including gathering high-quality information from the client, as well as undertaking your own research, managing the whole tender on behalf of the client and guiding them through the process.
As an independent bid writing consultancy, we support clients across a diverse range of industries and sectors. We therefore require a candidate who will be able to write compelling, persuasive text across a very wide-ranging field of businesses and functions.
As noted above, as this is not a trainee role you should be ideally able to demonstrate relevant experience of bid writing or, alternatively, transferrable skills and knowledge as gained through your experience working in industries and sectors relevant to our work.
In any case, you must be a skilled and confident writer, able to adapt to writing for small, newly founded bidder organisations one day, and large multi-national corporations the next.
We work in a very fast-paced environment and you will be responsible for managing and writing multiple concurrent bids, whilst simultaneously managing clients and their expectations. The role therefore requires you to be hardworking with excellent attention to detail, as well as an ability to work independently and manage your own workload, but support is always available via the team of fellow bid writers and managers. Some work outside of typical office hours may occasionally be required.
Main duties for the role include:
Opportunities to develop subject matter specialism with respect to your areas of proficiency and experience can be explored. Existing writers within our team include subject matter specialists for construction, engineering and health and social care, for example.
Skills and experience
Successful candidates will be enthusiastic, ambitious and committed. Strong IT skills and outstanding writing, editing and verbal communication skills are essential, with preference for applicants who have a proven track record in bid writing and bid/proposal management, but candidates who have demonstrated the required competencies while working in other roles should also feel confident to apply. In any case, you should be educated to degree level or above in a relevant discipline.
You will become part of a small but vibrant, thriving and supportive team, as well as benefiting from:
Salary: £25,000.00 – £35,000.00 per year
