Salary: £24,549 – £25,939 pa & enhanced holidays

Hours: 35 hours per week

Start Date: ASAP

Annual Leave: 35 days including bank holidays pro-rated to hours worked.

The HEAT project helps older people stay warm, safe and independent. We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and highly organised individual to join our Home Energy Advice Team (HEAT).

This exciting new role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of older people experiencing fuel poverty, energy vulnerability, social isolation, and poor housing conditions. Through home visits, community outreach, practical energy-saving support and personalised advice, you will help older residents stay warm, healthy and independent in their own homes.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: HEAT Energy Advisor & Project Coordinator

ACCOUNTABLE TO: HEAT Project Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

The HEAT project helps older people stay warm, safe and independent. The HEAT Energy Advisor & Project Coordinator will deliver all aspects of the HEAT Project, providing practical energy advice and support to older people who are experiencing, or at risk of, fuel poverty.

The successful candidate will combine frontline community outreach and home visiting with project coordination, administration, monitoring and resource management responsibilities. You will manage a caseload of clients, coordinate referrals, maintain project records, organise appointments and ensure the successful delivery of project outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Energy Advice and Client Support

  • Deliver personalised home energy advice visits across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
  • Support older people to understand energy bills, tariffs, payment methods and energy-saving opportunities.
  • Identify households at risk of fuel poverty, cold homes, damp, condensation and energy vulnerability.
  • Promote energy-efficient behaviours and practical solutions to improve home comfort.
  • Facilitate referrals to LEAP, NEST, Care & Repair, welfare benefits services and other support programmes.
  • Conduct follow-up calls and ongoing client support where required.
  • Distribute energy information packs and practical support items.

Community Outreach and Engagement

  • Deliver community outreach sessions, awareness events and information talks.
  • Develop positive relationships with community groups, healthcare professionals, local authorities and partner organisations.
  • Promote the HEAT project and encourage referrals from a range of stakeholders.
  • Engage with isolated and hard-to-reach older residents who may not access traditional advice services

Project Coordination and Administration

  • Act as the first point of contact for HEAT enquiries.
  • Manage referrals, appointments, diaries and scheduling.
  • Maintain accurate client records using organisational systems.
  • Collect client feedback, case studies and outcome information.
  • Produce reports and monitoring information to support project evaluation and funder requirements.
  • Ensure project records are maintained in accordance with GDPR and organisational procedures

Procurement and Stock Control

  • Procure project resources and small grant items in accordance with organisational procurement procedures.
  • Maintain accurate stock control records and inventory systems.
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure resources are available to meet project demand.
  • Record the allocation and distribution of project items to beneficiaries.
  • Ensure all project resources are stored securely and audit trails are maintained

Team and Organisational Contribution

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale to promote a coordinated and person-centred approach to supporting older people.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training events, seminars, organisational development activities and other events as required.
  • Contribute to the wider aims, objectives and strategic priorities of Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale.
  • Maintain awareness of services provided across the organisation and make appropriate referrals to colleagues and partner agencies.
  • Represent Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale professionally at all times and act as an ambassador for the organisation within the community.
  • Work flexibly across the organisation and contribute to wider Age Connects initiatives, projects, campaigns and events where appropriate, ensuring the needs of older people remain at the heart of service delivery.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the post as reasonably required by the HEAT Project Manager or Senior Management Team.

  • Adapt to evolving service needs, organisational priorities and changes in client demand — whether services expand, contract or shift focus.
  • Undertake any other reasonable tasks as required by the Service Manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following skills, experience and personal qualities. Shortlisting will be based on how well applicants meet these criteria.

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES

  • Experience of working with older people, vulnerable adults or disadvantaged communities.
  • Experience of providing advice, support, outreach or community based services.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Experience of managing records, appointments or casework systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage warmly and professionally with older people and their families.
  • Confident using digital tools including email, databases, Microsoft and online platforms, with the ability to learn our CRM and other new systems quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when recording information or updating databases.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with clients, colleagues and partner organisations.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately and follow safeguarding procedures.
  • Commitment to equality and person-centred working.
  • Willingness to undertake training to reach City & Guilds Level 3 Energy Awareness qualification.
  • Positive, proactive and adaptable — able to respond to changing service needs.
  • Ability to drive and have access to a car,

DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Energy Awareness qualification.
  • Experience of energy advice, housing support, welfare rights or fuel poverty service.
  • Knowledge of LEAP, NEST, Warm Homes Programmes or related schemes.
  • Experience in a charity, health, social care or community setting.
  • Ability to speak Welsh
