Horticulture & Wellbeing Lead (0.6 FTE)

Location: Scrubditch Care Farm, Gloucestershire

Contract: Permanent / Ongoing (employed or self-employed considered)

Salary: £16 ph (depending on experience)

Reporting to: Farm Manager / CEO

About the role

We are seeking a Horticulture & Wellbeing Lead to plan, deliver and monitor horticultural and environmental activity across our care farm. This is a hands-on role combining habitat management, volunteer coordination and therapeutic engagement with disabled adults and community groups.

From June 2026, you will deliver three sessions per week for beneficiaries, while leading the development of a thriving, sustainable and inclusive farm environment that supports both people and nature.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an Environmental Management Plan and annual habitat programme
  • Lead practical habitat work (planting, hedgerows, tree care, invasive species control)
  • Plan seasonal growing, coordinate produce use/sales, and liaise with the kitchen
  • Deliver engaging sessions for disabled adults and volunteers
  • Coordinate and support volunteer days, including corporate groups
  • Communicate plans, progress and impact to staff and stakeholders
  • Manage ecological surveys (via external specialists where needed)
  • Monitor activity, budgets and outcomes; produce quarterly reports

About you

  • Experience in habitat/environmental land management (practical, site-based)
  • Skilled in project delivery, volunteer coordination and stakeholder engagement
  • Confident working with vulnerable people and diverse groups
  • Organised, self-motivated and flexible (occasional weekends required)
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and biodiversity principles

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification in ecology, environmental or habitat management
  • Experience in a care farm, charity or therapeutic setting
  • Familiarity with volunteer management systems
  • Membership of a relevant professional body
